🚨 Postdoc Opportunity – Fashion, Trade & Sustainability Across China and Africa 🚨
Based at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA) / Media Studies Department, the University of Amsterdam (UvA), this 3rd Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct immersive ethnography in Guangzhou’s fashion hubs (and beyond) and design digital strategies that make China–Africa fashion supply chains more sustainable.
You will:
- Conduct ethnographic fieldwork in wholesale markets, trade fairs & online platforms
- Build rapports with designers, traders, trend forecasters, models and/or social influencers/creators
- Publish in top journals & a collaborative monograph
- Experiment with digital tools (apps, social media stories, etc.) to embed sustainability in everyday consumption
📅 Contract: 9 months, with possible extension (6–12 months)
📅 Deadline: 30 Sept 2025
📅 Start date: between 1 Dec 2025 and March 2026
