Guangzhou Changgang Area (海珠区昌岗晓港)

Updated: 3 days ago

Pilot field visit to post-pandemic China - Stop four: Guangzhou Changgang Area (海珠区昌岗晓港).

Compared with other orderly fashion markets, this may look like a rather messy area, where hundreds and thousands of new and worn clothes, accessories and textiles in so many different shapes, colours and textures are stacked and scattered all over the streets; but to the avid consumers, beginning fashion designers or design students, this is their paradise. Just ten renminbi can get you a very decent woollen cap. Bargain as much as you can for for a better deal. Students can also afford just the right amount of clothing they need - often unavailable elsewhere - for creating their masterpieces. Unexpectedly, some retailers also target online consumers - with their circular lights on, these “creators” eloquently introduce their best textiles and clothing items on Duoyin, Taobao Live, or Kuaishou.
