Dr. Ke Ma
Postdoctoral Researcher

Ke Ma recently graduated with a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. In her doctoral research, she examined the growing presence of foreigners working as models, actors, and online influencers in China’s fashion and entertainment industries. Her dissertation explores how this trend reveals the complex interaction of race, Chinese nationalism, and global capitalism, showing how racialized differences are being both politicized and marketed amid rising China-West tensions. As part of the CAFP project, Ke will investigate how African female models, influencers, and sourcing agents in China use social media to mediate the South-South fashion trade. Beyond her research, Ke is an enthusiastic gardener and ballet dancer.
