Jiaying Tu

Jiaying Tu is an incoming PhD student at the Media Studies Department, University of Amsterdam, also affiliated with the China Africa Fashion Power project. With a background in archaeology/anthropology, media and cultural studies, she has conducted research on the experiences of Chinese communities in South Africa (2016), the global African art trade in Togo (2019-2020), and more recently, on digital collaborations between Rwanda and China (2022). Her current research on the global second-hand clothes trade with fieldworks in China, Rwanda and Ghana aims to foster a greater understanding of the evolvement of second-hand clothes consumption in Global South countries.
